Read the notices posted in the surgery.
Make sure that you know the surgery opening times.
Keep your appointment or cancel it – it is practice policy to remove patients from the list if they repeatedly miss appointments without advising us in advance.
Take a friend or relative with you if necessary, or make a list of things to discuss.
Ask the reception team if you think you may need more than 10 minutes with the doctor – she may be able to arrange this.
Think twice before making an appointment – do you really need to see a doctor?
- Could you see a nurse or healthcare assistant instead?
- Have you tried simple home treatments?
- Have you asked NHS Direct?
- Have you asked your local chemist for advice?
You may express a preference for a specific GP but please note that you may then have to wait longer for an appointment.
Remember that telephone appointments can be used to discuss blood test and x-ray results, also some sick notes
When visiting the surgery, please remember to:
- Give your name at reception on arrival
- Ask the reception team for a Lifestyle Update Questionnaire to complete if you have not done this for a while – this helps us to ensure we can provide you with the best possible level of care
- Turn off your mobile phone
- Show consideration and respect for other people in the waiting room
- Let the reception team know if you are concerned about the length of time you have waited to see the doctor or nurse
